Abstract
This study examines skin problems and knowledge about skin care products among cosmetology students in Malaysia and Indonesia. Based on data analysis from 67 respondents, findings show that the most common skin issues are dry skin and comedones, with the highest mean values of 3.58 and 3.06, respectively. The least common issues are melasma and red rashes, with mean values of 1.15 and 1.82, respectively. Additionally, knowledge about the benefits and drawbacks of active ingredients in skin care products shows the highest mean for items like the use of AHA to smooth the skin (4.06) and BHA to protect the skin from free radicals (3.90). However, understanding of ingredients like AHA for moisturizing the skin and benzoyl peroxide for reducing new acne shows the lowest mean (2.43). There is a slight negative correlation between knowledge about products and the skin problems faced. This is due to other factors that may have a high correlation with the level of skin problems. Therefore, the study suggests monitoring dietary patterns, gaining deeper knowledge about product ingredients, and selecting appropriate products to reduce skin problems. Further study recommendations include expanding the study population, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, and broadening feedback questions to gain wider insights. Thus, this study provides a comprehensive view of skin care issues among cosmetology students in Malaysia and Indonesia.
