Tressy Belly

Last modified: 2024-10-24

Abstract

This systematic literature review (SLR) examines and consolidates ecotourist values, believes and personal norms within the sphere of ecotourist behavior and proposes future research avenues. Among the screened 490 research papers, the SLR identified specifically 46 papers focusing on ecotourists’ personal values, environmental beliefs, and sustainable practices. Key findings underscore ecotourist values, believes and personal norms significance in fostering environmentally responsible behavior and promoting sustainability practices in ecotourism settings. The findings also depict the critical roles of ecotourist values, believes and personal norms in forming ecotourists' behavior for sustainability practices. The study’s future research directions emphasize the evolving focus on cross-cultural behavioral variations, leveraging technology influence, assessing community engagement impacts, understanding modern psychological factors, and the need to conduct continuous impact assessments in ecotourism sustainability. This study also recommends theoretical and practical implications for contemporary ecotourism scholars and practitioners.
