Abstract

This literature review presents a review of 20 articles that address the role and contribution of women as entrepreneurs in the tourism industry. The research highlights various aspects related to women's involvement in tourism businesses, including challenges, opportunities, strategies employed, and their impact on economic and social development. Key findings show that women play a significant role in driving the growth of the tourism sector through innovation, leadership, and involvement in various segments of the industry, ranging from accommodation to tour guiding. However, there are also barriers and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in achieving success, including access to capital, gender roles, and cultural constraints. Some articles also highlight strategies used by women entrepreneurs to overcome these challenges, such as social networking, training, and collaborative approaches. In addition, the literature also emphasizes the importance of women's empowerment in the context of tourism to enhance social inclusion, strengthen local capacity, and preserve culture. This research provides in-depth insights into the contributions and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in the tourism industry, and presents policy implications and future research directions in support of women's empowerment and sustainable tourism development.
