Abstract

This research is an art creation research that produces new ethnic style ATBM weaving with Surya Majapahit motifs in Palah Penataran Temple. The research is based on the lack of exploration of the Palah Penataran Temple motif as the Nagari Temple which was built during the time of the 3 great kingdoms of Kediri, Singasari, and Majapahit as the Wastra Nusantara. Surya Majapahit itself is believed to be a symbol of the Majapahit kingdom in the form of a circle with radiating lines in an isosceles triangle shape in the direction of the wind. This research method uses a three stages design process approach or three stages of the design process: problem definition and research, creative exploration and implementation. In the early stages of determining the design direction, namely making a long cloth with Surya Majapahit's source of ideas. In the second stage, researchers made 10 developments of the Surya Majapahit motif as a design for ATBM woven structures. One selected design was realized using cotton thread as warp thread and rayon thread as weft with blue perennial and empire yellow colors which are the trend for 2023. The implementation stage is to apply the dobby technique to the ATBM woven design structure with the Surya Majapahit motif which starts with the thread coloring process, crocheting the threads, attaching the warp threads to the bum, slapping on the gums, tying the combs, tying the warp threads on the bums, setting, weaving, and removing the woven. The finished product is a long ATBM woven cloth made of cotton and rayon fiber using the dobby technique with the Surya Majapahit motif with a color combination of perennial blue and empire yellow as Wastra Nusantara.
