Change Communication Pattern in Human Resources Department at JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya

Abstract


This research was motivated by the lack of information when answering questions from employees, decreased motivation, and employees’ uncertainty due to occured changes. The purpose of this study is to describe the change communication pattern in Human Resources Department at JW Marriott Surabaya from three indicators: tackling queries, motivating employees, and reducing uncertainty. The type of this research is descriptive with qualitative data. This research was conducted on employees of the Human Resources Department (HRD) JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya. The informants in this study were 4 persons who were selected by purposive sampling technique, those are: Assistant Learning & Development Manager, Human Resources Executive, Human Resources Coordinator, and Human Resources Administrative Assistant. The results of this study indicate: 1) the change communication patterns used to tackle queries dominantly form a wheel pattern; 2) the change communication pattern used in HRD when motivating employees is a star pattern (all channels), and 3) the change communication pattern used in HRD to reduce uncertainty tends to form a wheel pattern.
