MINANGKABAU SONGKET: EDUCATION AND LOCAL WISDOM (AN ANALYSIS)

Abstract

This article aims to describe education and local wisdom in minangkabau songket which is well-known both at Indonesia and abroad. So far, minangkabau songket has been favored by many people. It is as if songket fabric is a basic necessity for those who love fashion. The process of making songket fabric is sophisticated, so that songket fabric becomes an ordinary object. But there is another secret of a piece of minangkabau songket. The method used in the research is qualitative research by collecting a number of data in the form of journals, books, and oral information from several informants who understand minangkabau songket. The data was analyzed using milles and huberman theory. It is  data collection, data presentation, data reduction and conclusion. The finding of this research stated that minangkabau songket is classified as a special stuffed fabric. Many values are implied in a piece of minangkabau songket. Educational values are very identic in a piece of minangkabau songket. These values are closely related to the local wisdom of the minangkabau society  which can be said to be foundation of social life for the minangkabau society .
