Abstract

Human resource development will suffer losses when the investment spent produces less impact to provide skilled workers and is forced to use foreign labor from local residents as the organization's main employees (Khazanah Research Institute, 2019). This happens when the workers are faced with a career mismatch between the industry's requirements and the students' career choices, especially in the Technical and Vocational fields. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reveal the influence of career knowledge and career adaptability on the career choice for students in the field of Bakery and Pastry at the Malaysia Vocational College. This quantitative study involved a sample of 166 respondents of final year Baking and Pastry diploma students from 12 Malaysian Vocational Colleges. The data collection is performed through questionnaires and taken cross-sectionally. The analysis testing of this study used the SEM PLS software version 3 in answering the research hypotheses. The findings indicated that there is significant influence between the factors of career knowledge and career adaptability with student’s career choice. The significance of this study benefits the institution to put more emphasis on the above factors that need to be addressed immediately in addition to improving existing efforts. Therefore, the findings of this study have an impact on increasing the efforts of institutions, departments, and ministries to help in the new alignment of Technical and Vocational teaching and learning.
