Abstract

This research is motivated by the influence of methods on learning which is one form of change and innovation in the education system, especially the use of media, one of the media that encourages students' understanding is project-based learning media. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using learning media based on project based learning on the subject of Hair Trimming at SMKN 3 Payakumbuh.

This type of research is an experimental research with a quantitative approach in the form of a true experiment in the form of a post test only control design. The population in this study were students consisting of 2 classes. The total number of students is 48 students in class XI, as many as 24 students in the sample class and 24 students in the experimental class. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. The research instrument used multiple choice test questions. The steps to analyze the data are to perform normality test, homogeneity test, and t test.

Based on the research results, the average learning outcomes of the experimental class using project-based learning media are 85.35 and the average value of the control class learning outcomes using conventional learning media or modules is 68.52. There is a significant difference between student learning outcomes using project-based learning media and learning outcomes using conventional learning media or modules t arithmetic > t table (7.546 > 2.010). It is suggested that the cosmetology teacher should use project-based learning-based learning media that can help students to understand and be motivated in the learning process, one of which is by using project-based learning-based learning media.
